OUR FIRST OUTING!

We hosted seventy-five 3rd grade students from Montebello Elementary school to a hike out into nature. 95% of the students had never been on a hike or in the wilderness.

The R0AM team got together with environmentalist John DeGrazio - owner of YExplore and his teammate Sarah to guide the students through the Eaton Canyon trail in Altadena, California.

During the three mile hike, students learned how to identify poison oak, smelled wild sage, observed wild flowers and climbed large canopied oak trees.

After the hike, we gathered together for lunch and did a customized lesson about the development of trees and their correlation to human development. There was also an art project where the students could either draw a tree which reminded them of themselves, or, draw what they would look like if they were a tree. We celebrated the end of the outing with custom donuts from California Donuts

It was a wonderful morning and a good time was had by all. We can't wait to plan our next trip!
